Passing Pride

This exhibition was hosted at Norwich’s Assembly House thanks to Queerfest, Norwich Pride and NUA.

I decided to explore the theme through the lens of trans* passing. My artwork considers binders as an important part of trans-masculine culture. The background poses an obsessive, anxious question as to whether the binder is working; the colourful torso with stitched binder states a comfort in passing as flat-chested.

The Art of Trans Joy

This exhibition was possible thanks to Trans In The City, University of the Arts London and UAL Halls Life. Hosted at Sketch House, Finsbury Park.

This piece is a self-portrait drawing on my own experiences as a young trans man. Whilst the main subject is the portrait, hand-sewn and roughly shaped stars provide relief beside the intense portrait, and alongside the background comprise the colours of the trans flag.The subtle smile in the self-portrait was chosen to represent a more subdued and content form of joy, which I feel more accurately depicts my current feelings around my identity: a sense of feeling settled. Overlayed on the background, the hand-written text is taken from a piece of writing I wrote about my journey towards figuring out I was trans, and then finding peace in that discovery. That narrative is supported by the crudely cut out stars, highlighting the raw and self-made elements of this very personal journey that so many trans people undergo.

My design was one of the 700 unique record sleeves selected for this exhibition and online auction (one of 100 for the Frank Turner track “Be More Kind”). All proceeds from Secret7” went towards the wonderful work carried out by War Child.

The twist? All of the artists had to keep the secret of which design they created until the grand reveal on the 16th June.

I headed down to London for the opening night at NOW Gallery.

Displayed Illustration at Ancient House Museum, Thetford

Commissioned stylised illustration of Prince Frederick Duleep Singh for a graphic panel in the Pavilion at Ancient House Museum. It was an absolute honour to be able to contribute an artwork to the museum, since it’s been a place close to my heart for many years now!

An Exhibition Curated by the Young Arts Norfolk Collective

My first ever exhibition, hosted at Anteros Arts Foundation!

Wingless We Transform is an artwork exploring the concept of metaphorical metamorphosis in comparison to the biological process. As a trans artist, transformation is a significant part of my journey in life, and this self portrait is highly symbolic of personal change and new beginnings. Through this artwork, I hope to challenge the literal thinking that metamorphosis is something only undergone by species such as butterflies… As individuals, we too experience so much change in our lives, sometimes drastic, and this is also a form of metamorphosis.
